- Twilight author tipped to be next JK Rowling ondon (ANI): With the Twilight series becoming a best-seller worldwide, author Stephenie Meyer is being tipped to be the next JK Rowling. Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series about a Vampire are so popular that it has already sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.
It is also being said that Meyer's books are helping fill the void left by Rowling's famous 'Harry Potter' series after its last instalment was published in 2007. Figures obtained from the retailer amazon.com clearly reveal that Meyer's books dominate the top 10 lists for the last year in Britain, the US, Canada and France, enjoying an international success not seen since the height of 'Potter-mania'.
Kes Nielsen, the head of books buying at the British arm amazon.co.uk Kes Nielsen, said that it was rare for a book to have such great appeal in multifarious countries at the same time. "Stephenie Meyer, in particular, has achieved incredible success across all the English-speaking nations and Europe and many will say that her Twilight series has filled the hole left by Harry Potter," the Telegraph quoted Nielsen as saying.
"Indeed, I don't think we have seen one author have so many books in the best-sellers lists since J K Rowling in the early days of the boy wizard," Nielsen added.
Meanwhile, Meyer's Twilight series has already been turned into a motion picture featuring Hollywood actor Rob Pattinson as the Vampire.

Kristen Stewart catapulted to fame after portraying heroine Bella Swan in "Twilight," but rumor has it the actress is quitting the franchise! Is it true?
The life can be sucked out of that rumor -- it's false! According to reports, Kristen is sticking with the vampire franchise, but reportedly said it would be "so easy" not to return for "New Moon" and "Eclipse."
If the rumored quote is true, Kristen should be careful not to bite the hand -- or neck -- that feeds her!

- New Moon movie begins filming, Twilight fans have high expectations, can Chris Weitz deliver?
Consensus says that Twilight Saga fans have very high expectations for the quality of New Moon. Not only do we want good acting from Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the cast, but we want good direction also.
Returning alongside the actors to the second installment of the Twilight Saga is Melissa Rosenberg, who some say is to blame for some of the disappointment fans had with the first movie.
Some fans even say that they will not return for the confirmed third part Eclipse if Chris Weitz and the cast don't improve the series through the second bat with New Moon.
Others are thrilled, saying they loved Twilight the movie and just can't wait to sink their teeth in (pun intended) New Moon.
This examiner is a little of both.
As the wonderful fans have pointed out, there were a few points in Twilight the movie that could have seriously been improved. Most say the "meadow scene," which Stephenie Meyer has said was her original inspiration for writing the book (a dream about two lovers in a meadow) Twilight, was inadequate and rushed. The famous "lion and lamb" quote was too soon.
Personally, I think that there were a few things missing from Twilight... and I don't want to see it happen again. Also, I think there were some parts that were added unnecessarily to take up the precious space we could've used to extend the meadow scene and the conversations between Edward and Bella or to see more about the Cullens, or to include the scene with Carlisle's painting, etc. (the list goes on).
The many things that simply cannot get lost in the shuffle are continuing to be debated, and the consensus is strong. We Twilight Series fans refuse to see New Moon lose some of its literary luster in the shuffle becoming a movie. While we understand that it is hard to translate a first-person perspective novel with little dialogue into a movie, we don't want to see the actual dialogue disappear, and certainly not the important events. We are fine to watch a three-hour movie if it will deliver to our expectations. In other words, New Moon should be made for the Twilight fans, not for commercial value, because - in case they haven't caught the memo - there are millions of us.
- Dakota Fanning to join Kristen Stewart in 'The Runaways' Fifteen-year-old Dakota Fanning is negotiating to play Cherie Currie in The Runaways, the biopic of the '70s all-girl band, according to Variety. Fanning is the same age as Currie was when she debuted as the lead singer of the Runaways with hard-edged tunes like "Cherry Bomb." Twilight star Kristen Stewart has already signed on to play Joan Jett, who will executive-produce the film. Fanning is also booked to play a vampire in the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon.
http://news-briefs.ew.com/2009/03/dakota-fanning.html - Will Drew Barrymore Direct the Third Film in the ‘Twilight’ Series?
Entertainment Weekly is running a new bit of news claiming Drew Barrymore may go from her directorial debut Whip It!, which stars Ellen Page, to a much higher profile feature and direct the third film in the Twilight franchise, Eclipse.
Chris Weitz is following in the steps of Catherine Hardwicke and directing the second film in the series, New Moon, which hits theaters on November 20, but it has already been announced Weitz won’t be directing the third film which already has a June 30, 2010 release date, only seven months after its predecessor hits theaters.
Considering the short amount of time between productions it would only make sense Summit would want to attach a director soon so as to have enough time to prepare as the two films will not be filming simultaneously or back-to-back, but there will only be a brief gap between the production of both films.
Should the Barrymore story be proved true I expect we will hear news very soon.
As for Barrymore’s Whip It!, Marcia Gay Harden plays an overbearing ex-beauty queen who would rather see her daughter, Bliss (Page), in pageants than skates. Kristen Wiig (”Saturday Night Live”) plays Bliss’ rowdy mentor, Malice in Wonderland. Juliette Lewis is Dinah Might, the star of Austin’s top team and Zoe Bell (Death Race) plays a medical technician moonlighting as derby star Bloody Holly.
- Bronson Pelletier Joins 'New Moon' Cast
While plenty of question marks still remain about the cast of the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon, MTV.com reports that Canadian actor Bronson Pelletier is definitely signing up for the second installment of the vampire saga.
Carrier Talent Management, which reps Pelletier, posted a message on its Web site earlier today reading, "Congratulations to Bronson who scores a lead role in the highly anticipated Twilight feature film sequel New Moon. It's rumored he will be co-starring with Dakota Fanning."Though the message has since been removed, a source confirms that Pelletier has been added to the cast.
Pelletier is known for his work on the television series Renegadepress and Dinosapien.
It's uncertain what role Pelletier has been tapped for. However, given his Native American background—his heritage derives from the Plains Cree tribe of the Askinootow First Nations—it's a strong possibility that he'll be playing one of the werewolves of the Quileute tribe.http://www.celebuzz.com/bronson-pelletier-joins-new-moon-s89101/
