Last month's contest winner: J.R. Blanco, on Watchmen
"The themes and archetypes of characters in the Watchmen graphic novels are still relevant in this time. The character development of this comic has also lent itself to other media, such as the TV drama Heroes. I believe the influence of the Watchmen is presented as somewhat ordinary people can achieve extraordinary accomplishments. The main antagonist of the TV series Heroes named Sylar is even a watchmaker by trade, a direct reference to the novel. The characters are flawed. The themes are dark and somber, very realistic and appropriate."----------------------------------------
Before Twilight the movie made millions of dollars and won fans worldwide, it was a book.
The novel, authored by Stephanie Meyer, marks the first entry in a saga about teen aged vampires. You've probably seen the movie or at least heard about it. But you can't know the whole story until you read the book.
Twilight is a quick read, and you can find it for cheap. The novel, now in paperback, is available at Barnes & Noble for $10.99. Read it yourself, assign it to your students or share the story with a young reader. But be warned, this tale deals in romance and vampires, so it might scare the super little ones.
As you read, e-mail your comments, thoughts and jokes. You could win a prize at the end of the month, when we publish our review.

I love the part when Edward says," Do I dazzle you"
One of the parts of the book that should have been in the movie is when Edward ditches biology because they are doing blood typing and Bella gets sick from the blood when she goes. It's one of my favorites.
