- Twilight author tipped to be next JK Rowling ondon (ANI): With the Twilight series becoming a best-seller worldwide, author Stephenie Meyer is being tipped to be the next JK Rowling. Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series about a Vampire are so popular that it has already sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.
It is also being said that Meyer's books are helping fill the void left by Rowling's famous 'Harry Potter' series after its last instalment was published in 2007. Figures obtained from the retailer amazon.com clearly reveal that Meyer's books dominate the top 10 lists for the last year in Britain, the US, Canada and France, enjoying an international success not seen since the height of 'Potter-mania'.
Kes Nielsen, the head of books buying at the British arm amazon.co.uk Kes Nielsen, said that it was rare for a book to have such great appeal in multifarious countries at the same time. "Stephenie Meyer, in particular, has achieved incredible success across all the English-speaking nations and Europe and many will say that her Twilight series has filled the hole left by Harry Potter," the Telegraph quoted Nielsen as saying.
"Indeed, I don't think we have seen one author have so many books in the best-sellers lists since J K Rowling in the early days of the boy wizard," Nielsen added.
Meanwhile, Meyer's Twilight series has already been turned into a motion picture featuring Hollywood actor Rob Pattinson as the Vampire.

Kristen Stewart catapulted to fame after portraying heroine Bella Swan in "Twilight," but rumor has it the actress is quitting the franchise! Is it true?
The life can be sucked out of that rumor -- it's false! According to reports, Kristen is sticking with the vampire franchise, but reportedly said it would be "so easy" not to return for "New Moon" and "Eclipse."
If the rumored quote is true, Kristen should be careful not to bite the hand -- or neck -- that feeds her!

- New Moon movie begins filming, Twilight fans have high expectations, can Chris Weitz deliver?
Consensus says that Twilight Saga fans have very high expectations for the quality of New Moon. Not only do we want good acting from Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the cast, but we want good direction also.
Returning alongside the actors to the second installment of the Twilight Saga is Melissa Rosenberg, who some say is to blame for some of the disappointment fans had with the first movie.
Some fans even say that they will not return for the confirmed third part Eclipse if Chris Weitz and the cast don't improve the series through the second bat with New Moon.
Others are thrilled, saying they loved Twilight the movie and just can't wait to sink their teeth in (pun intended) New Moon.
This examiner is a little of both.
As the wonderful fans have pointed out, there were a few points in Twilight the movie that could have seriously been improved. Most say the "meadow scene," which Stephenie Meyer has said was her original inspiration for writing the book (a dream about two lovers in a meadow) Twilight, was inadequate and rushed. The famous "lion and lamb" quote was too soon.
Personally, I think that there were a few things missing from Twilight... and I don't want to see it happen again. Also, I think there were some parts that were added unnecessarily to take up the precious space we could've used to extend the meadow scene and the conversations between Edward and Bella or to see more about the Cullens, or to include the scene with Carlisle's painting, etc. (the list goes on).
The many things that simply cannot get lost in the shuffle are continuing to be debated, and the consensus is strong. We Twilight Series fans refuse to see New Moon lose some of its literary luster in the shuffle becoming a movie. While we understand that it is hard to translate a first-person perspective novel with little dialogue into a movie, we don't want to see the actual dialogue disappear, and certainly not the important events. We are fine to watch a three-hour movie if it will deliver to our expectations. In other words, New Moon should be made for the Twilight fans, not for commercial value, because - in case they haven't caught the memo - there are millions of us.
- Dakota Fanning to join Kristen Stewart in 'The Runaways' Fifteen-year-old Dakota Fanning is negotiating to play Cherie Currie in The Runaways, the biopic of the '70s all-girl band, according to Variety. Fanning is the same age as Currie was when she debuted as the lead singer of the Runaways with hard-edged tunes like "Cherry Bomb." Twilight star Kristen Stewart has already signed on to play Joan Jett, who will executive-produce the film. Fanning is also booked to play a vampire in the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon.
http://news-briefs.ew.com/2009/03/dakota-fanning.html - Will Drew Barrymore Direct the Third Film in the ‘Twilight’ Series?
Entertainment Weekly is running a new bit of news claiming Drew Barrymore may go from her directorial debut Whip It!, which stars Ellen Page, to a much higher profile feature and direct the third film in the Twilight franchise, Eclipse.
Chris Weitz is following in the steps of Catherine Hardwicke and directing the second film in the series, New Moon, which hits theaters on November 20, but it has already been announced Weitz won’t be directing the third film which already has a June 30, 2010 release date, only seven months after its predecessor hits theaters.
Considering the short amount of time between productions it would only make sense Summit would want to attach a director soon so as to have enough time to prepare as the two films will not be filming simultaneously or back-to-back, but there will only be a brief gap between the production of both films.
Should the Barrymore story be proved true I expect we will hear news very soon.
As for Barrymore’s Whip It!, Marcia Gay Harden plays an overbearing ex-beauty queen who would rather see her daughter, Bliss (Page), in pageants than skates. Kristen Wiig (”Saturday Night Live”) plays Bliss’ rowdy mentor, Malice in Wonderland. Juliette Lewis is Dinah Might, the star of Austin’s top team and Zoe Bell (Death Race) plays a medical technician moonlighting as derby star Bloody Holly.
- Bronson Pelletier Joins 'New Moon' Cast
While plenty of question marks still remain about the cast of the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon, MTV.com reports that Canadian actor Bronson Pelletier is definitely signing up for the second installment of the vampire saga.
Carrier Talent Management, which reps Pelletier, posted a message on its Web site earlier today reading, "Congratulations to Bronson who scores a lead role in the highly anticipated Twilight feature film sequel New Moon. It's rumored he will be co-starring with Dakota Fanning."Though the message has since been removed, a source confirms that Pelletier has been added to the cast.
Pelletier is known for his work on the television series Renegadepress and Dinosapien.
It's uncertain what role Pelletier has been tapped for. However, given his Native American background—his heritage derives from the Plains Cree tribe of the Askinootow First Nations—it's a strong possibility that he'll be playing one of the werewolves of the Quileute tribe.http://www.celebuzz.com/bronson-pelletier-joins-new-moon-s89101/
- New Moon Rumor Roundup
New Moon is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, and we know all you Twi-hards are probably already counting down the minutes until the first midnight showing. We thought it might be nice to help you out with the wait by rounding up all the rumors surrounding New Moon, let you know which ones have already been debunked, and which ones still have both Team Edward and Team Jacob in suspense:
Old Rumors:
Taylor Lautner won’t be returning as Jacob Black.
Verdict: False! Despite some concern that Lautner wouldn’t be able to convincingly pull off the drastic physical changes Jacob goes through in New Moon (to be fair, they’re not exactly natural human changes), director Chris Weitz has decided to keep the original cast intact. Just be prepared to see a beefed-up Lautner ... on stilts.
Vanessa Hudgens might play Leah Clearwater.
Verdict: Laughably false! This rumor might have made more sense if Catherine Hardwicke had been returning to direct New Moon, seeing as how Hudgens appeared in Hardwicke’s Thirteen (along with Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie in the Twilight films). But even if someone had been looking to place the squeaky-clean High School Musical star in the film, it’s hard to think of a role that could’ve been a bigger stretch for her than angry, bitter Leah (especially if you think of how Leah’s character develops when we get to Breaking Dawn).
Billy Burke won’t return as Bella’s father.
Verdict: Mercifully false! Burke’s refreshingly droll performance as Chief Charlie Swan was a delightful surprise that truly brought one of the book’s most underdeveloped characters to life. I would’ve been incredibly sad to see him go.
Dakota Fanning is playing Jane.
Verdict: Hopefully. The pint-sized, angelic-looking menace of the Volturi clan is one of the trickier roles Weitz will have to cast, but Dakota definitely at least looks the part. Negotiations have been reported as “ongoing” for months. With filming set to begin in March, we should get a final decision soon.
New Rumors:
Madonna will be part of New Moon.
Verdict: Kind of, sort of, maybe. Although earlier rumors that she was scheduled to appear in the film have been squashed (if anyone has any idea what role they possibly could have been thinking to cast her in, please enlighten me in the comments section), there still seems to be a possibility of her contributing music to the soundtrack. I wonder what emo-loving Twilight author Stephanie Meyer thinks about that.
New Moon and Eclipse will be filmed back-to-back.
Verdict: False, but there will be some overlap. Summit Entertainment has already announced that Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight franchise, will be released on June 30, 2010, a mere seven months after New Moon hits theaters. This means Robert Pattinson better not relax on any sunny beaches during his break between films. It won’t be long before his skin will need to be at its pastiest again.
Chris Weitz has already been fired from Eclipse.
Verdict: I know it sounds harsh, but it’s pretty much true. In order to hit that June 30, 2010, release date, Eclipse will have to begin shooting while New Moon is still in post-production. Weitz can’t be in two places at once; therefore, a new director will need to be hired to helm Eclipse. It seems to me that Summit is taking a big risk here. What if the fans love what Weitz does with New Moon and become angry that he was never given the chance to return for Eclipse? (Easy solution: Summit can keep things in the family by hiring Chris’ brother/frequent collaborator, Paul Weitz, to direct Eclipse!) On one hand, it makes sense to rush a little bit so the young stars don’t change too much in appearance between films (except for poor Taylor Lautner, who has the opposite problem). But on the other hand, I think Summit’s true motivation to churn out these films at lightening speed is to cash in as much as possible before the next fad moves in and vampires become passé.

- 'New Moon' Smackdown: Taylor v. Robert
Look out Robert Pattinson, there's a sexy werewolf in town.
Twilight's much anticipated sequel New Moon will allow Taylor Lautner's hottie werewolf character Jacob to step up and woo Bella leading-man style—and he might not let her, or the swooning fans, go.
"I think Rob should watch out," Rachelle Lefevre, who plays Victoria, tells Life & Style magazine. "(Taylor) will make sure his relationship with her is just as intense and has just as much chemistry as Rob's."
Indeed, Pattinson is quoted in the magazine piece downing Stella beer and lamenting, "I've got two scenes."
Lautner is ready to get hairy in the big-time role, knowing that once you go wolf, you cannot get enough. He tells the mag, "I wanted to get Twlight over with, let Edward (Pattinson) have his time with Bella and get moving with New Moon."
"It's about time Jacob got in there."
Rrrrrrrr. Those claws are sharp.

- Twilight Actor 'Casts' the Sequel Rumors are swirling about who will be cast in Twilight's sequel, New Moon. Twilight actor Billy Burke has his own wish list.
"I would love to have Dakota Fanning in the movie," Burke, who plays the character of Charlie Swan in the film, told PEOPLE at the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational on Saturday.
"She's one of the most talented young actors that's come around in ages."
Burke, 42, who plays the father to Kristen Stewart's character, Bella, starts shooting New Moon next month in Vancouver and can't wait to reunite with his costar.
"We get along in this weird ethereal way that I haven't gotten along with any costar before," Burke said of Stewart. "She brings something that makes me want to go to work."
Burke says he can relate to his character more the second time around since he became a father himself to his now-7-month-old daughter, who was born during the shooting of Twilight.
"It's the weirdest and coolest thing I've ever had happen to me," the actor says of being a dad.
"I had to turn down a movie last month because I didn't want to be away from the baby. I've never had to make decisions like that before. I used to be a pretty selfish bastard. Now I'm thinking like I'd rather spend time with my kid."
The best part about being a dad? "When your baby smiles at you with their whole body. It's enough to make me fall down."

- Billy Burke Wants Dakota Fanning in New Moon
Billy Burke wants Dakota Fanning to star in Twilight sequel New Moon.
The actor - who plays Charlie Swan in the flick - believes Fanning would be perfect for a role in the second film based on the books by author Stephenie Meyer.
He says, "I would love to have Dakota Fanning in the movie.
"She's one of the most talented young actors that's come around in ages."
Of his costar Kristen Stewart, Burke, 42, adds: "We get along in this weird ethereal way that I haven't gotten along with any costar before.
"She brings something that makes me want to go to work."
Fanning, 15 - who has been tipped to play Volturi vampire Jane - recently said it was "definitely a possibility" that she'd star in New Moon.
"It's not 100 percent yet set in stone but it's definitely not totally untrue or a rumor," she dished. "It's definitely a possibility and I think it would be really, really fun to be a part of."
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner reprise their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively, for New Moon.
